Mood: hey there good looking

you ain't done yet

hey whats up past you decided to pre start an entry for when you finish that rabbit. see you soon gorgeous. kisses~
hey thanks past me. wonder how long this ended up taking to finally write up.

Oh.
Ah.
Well.
better late than never. happy new year by the way.
good thing i pre wrote this like way way wayyyyyyy long ago already ahahaha~ now you may be thinking, did you post this on newly known for being the child porn generator site X formerly known as shitter? God No. i closed up shop over there a long time ago, in fact i cant even look at it on desktop anymore because theres an add-on on my browser that just fully blocks it now, and i don't feel like going through them to find out which one it is to turn it off. good riddance.
i'm out here posting on bluesky now! although i'm using it more like i've used tumblr over the years, which is to say barraging the timeline with garbage and then one (1) post of my own once in a blue moon. i just like looking at peoples art more than i like posting my own. i don't wanna fix it. anyway.
WHAT DID I LEARN THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS:
a lot. actually. the important bits will be marked with ✧ for your ctrl F convenience.
low poly modeling is like a fun little puzzle, trying to make the topology look smooth made my brain start smoking but it was a neccessary exercise for the future. making that murkrow was a good warm up and tbh, if i start streaming i may incorporate low poly pokemon warm ups into my process. theres like a thousand of them i doubt i'll run out anytime soon.
i need to practice making my uv maps cleaner still. you would think drawing as long as i have i would be able to grasp fitting things on a square good, And Yet. maybe i'm being too hard on my self, its not like anyone is going to see my personal models so the maps don't need to be squeaky clean, but i feel like they could be laid out to maximize space just a hair better. like it feels like i have too much space and not enough space at the same time, it's weird.
if i show you the final map you have to promise not to laugh okay. i mean it.

alot of good folks out there have a lot of good resources if you look hard enough. thats not a dig to say you personally haven't looked hard enough or whatever, but ya know. mostly i wanna gush about the people i've been watching lately that got me wanting to pick up 3d modeling again and made it super easy to do that in another program (i used to work in something called Metasequoia, but when i changed computers my uhm, Legally Aquired Product Key ran out somehow. so i switched to blender.) anyway. shout out to voxid, his little patreon tutorial guides you through the finer things of modeling and giving it a rig (its about 10 bucks if i remember correctly and the first videos free, he's also updating it with his new work flow last i looked so check it out HERE if you wanna)
another shout to molegato for the quick little outline tutorial he posted HERE
and one more shout to crashune for helping with a few misceallaneous things, they did a contest and in their reviews they pointed out setting the rendering style to Standard instead of Filmic for more stylized rendering, it makes your colors pop. also they showed their UV mapping process and despite mine looking like hot buttcheecks it would've looked way worse if i hadn't tried to follow it along, they have a playlist set up HERE showing the abridged version of their process thats an easy watch. check it out if you have a chance.
okay thats enough of me gushing back to what i learned.
hey did you know that low poly wrists are HARD? if they don't bend a certain way they look like ass, i've seen a few folks just not attach the hand to the wirst and have them as seperate blocks so i may just do that next time because trying to pose her hands was balls. it looks okay in the preview sure, but thats just movie magic babey (posing them in such a way that they don't look like ass)
youtube is your best friend if you don't have modeling friends. i mean it, back in the day it was harder to find tutorials for specifically what you were looking for and now it feels like i got tutorials coming out of my ears, and they're quick and to the point instead of like 15 minutes long to do something stupidly simple, praise be going into the search bar and typing something like i'm five and finding exactly what i'm looking for.
oh, and blenders auto rig DOES NOT like layers. this one didn't come into play nearly as much on bunby, but it sure did on the model i did after this that had a jacket and belts, feels like half the time spent on her rigging was just trying to de-shittify it. i need to figure out an easier way to unrig something from a bone in one go that isn't just painting the thing over and over i swear, it makes my brain hurt and also my wrist.
behold the fruits of my labor.

lets get this shit going

i think its funnier to keep the test entry instead of just deleting it lmao. uh. so like, i've been doing 3d modeling on and off since about 2016 and i dont reallllllly show it off anymore because holy shit did i get burnt out early on from throwing together mmd model edits at lightening speed and making sure they looked and also worked good (shocking i know, usually you only get one or the other these days i swear) but i'm putting like, whatever i can here. will anyone look at it? who cares, getting my thoughts out about my progress will make me not fucking explode. heres a whole collage of the shit i saved over the last like, 8 years.

for a better view click here
we'll go left to right.
first we have a dress (2021). it is untextured and has like, a few ruffles, maybe. no bones no rig just flat material colors.
monoe from yume nikki(2020). the head and hair are from elsewhere, but the rest is all me, probably the first body i've made and it sure does function. i guess. the topo SUCKS DICK, especially in the elbows and hands they're so chunky monkey looking in certain lighting. the collared shirt was a pain and looking at it now, it's okay but it could be better. this one is rigged but theres no textures just flat material colors again. noticing a pattern? yea.
monoko (the girl with the pigtails) is about the same as they have the same body and clothing. oh and those shoes kind of also blow but it's a far cry from the first shoes i've made (there's about three of them in the middle. you see them. we'll get to those.)
big accessory spam from top to bottom is: a necklace thats literally just a rectangular crystal(2017). pink shoes that look like clown shoes because of how wide they are(2019). a star clip with probably worse topo than monoko and monoe's elbows(2017). another pair of shoes(2017), like the first thing i made i think? i didn't know how to seperate materials so its all one chunk and that sucks. shiny charm from pokemon(2017), it's not great but i'm proud of this one being rigged actually. ugly white shoes(2017), the second thing i've ever made and they are not good.
and then a familiar pair of glasses that were the most recent thing i actually liked (although recent is 2019 in this case HOUGH) and like. they're shaped correct and took maybe 20 minutes to bang out if i remember right.
lastly, that body base (2020) was an attempt to get out of just doing small accessories, and i think that body lead to making monoko and monoe. yea i know going from huge boobs to no boobs, isn't it usually easier the other way around? whatever man. her hands are BAD and so are the elbows. again.

now to compare to the last thing i (mostly) finished.
behold scrunt my son who has every disease. pretty recognizable what he is, unless you don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of pokemon, in which case he's a funny little Murkrow and he's your new best friend.
hell of a difference between this and the last thing i made to almost completion, probably because i started just, downloading game rip models and rotating them in blender to figure out what went where and how they made it look not like ass. i think his topo is passable, i.e. it doesn't make my skin itch looking at it, although the uv map leaves much to be desired
(i do not have the slightest clue how to make a uv map like, industry standard if that makes sense? theres a lot of empty space and that feels wrong. although maybe its just because i haven't look at enough uv maps from other models to get an understanding of how things are laid out. shrug. another foray for another day.)

my progress is weird man. i drop off for like 3 years of actively making things because.... well i mean you can guess what happened between 2020 and 2023. stuff. but the thing is, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk finally came out and i tore through it in like three days because i have schmoovement based mental illness that made me want to learn how to A. make a model that is passably low poly to fit the style of the game, B. port my own model into it just to see if i can figure it out and C. maybe finally make a game idea i've been throwing around in my head for awhile. so i've switched programs from metasequoia ver.... what is it 4.2? to blender version uh... 3.6? i think thats what i'm using (it's older yea but i have a few plugins that dont work with newer versions so like. shrug. i havent noticed a big difference like the jump from 2.9 to 3.6 had so it works.) hopefully switching to something more powerful will help me do that.
also! that lil game idea i wanted to try and put together is roughly silent hill-y because it's one of the big three of my personality, and what better time to try and figure out game dev then when you're brain worms kick in to make you try and learn a new program? free dopamine well baby.
i pretend i do not see the looming silent hill 2 remake with a spot dodge on the horizon. be strong for father ito.
yea so, thanks for the reading the ramble, this felt nice. i think i'll keep these long and unboxed unlike my blog blog, just to give you the full effect of the thought process. wheehoo.
